Leader name: Barb Lutz
Phone: (949) 510-0512
e-mail: [email protected]
Project length: Sept 2017 – August 2018
Description: The pygmy goat project is a wonderful way to introduce 4-H members to livestock. Members have a great time bonding with their goats. Members also enjoy sharing their knowledge and goats with other pygmy goat enthusiasts and the general public. Skills learned in the Pygmy Goat project will include, selection and proper care of your pygmy goat. Your pygmy goat maintenance will be complemented by learning terminology, appropriate goat health care, proper showmanship skills, show rules, and exploring health issues. Opportunities for public speaking, 4-H record books, and educational posters will also be made available to members of the project.
Age Range: Cloverbuds* – 19 years old
Meeting times: 2x/month
4th Monday of month 7-8pm (educational w/o goats)
3rd Sunday of the month 3-5pm (showmanship w/ goats)
Meeting location: TBD
Field Trips/Competitions: Various Open Shows, County Fairs throughout Southern California, and parades.
NOTES: Participants need appropriate zoning and accommodations for your pygmy goats. This is NOT a livestock market project. Lifespans of pygmy goats can be 10-15 years. This endeavor is a commitment - like owning a dog. You can join as an information project without a goat.
*some county fairs prohibit Cloverbuds from showing livestock.
